Jak Housden finally releases long awaited debut album “Mad
About Disco” on the 18th of September at the Vic on the Park,
Enmore.
A long time in the making and highly anticipated
by friends and fans alike, Jak Housden
finally delivers us his long awaited debut album "Mad About
Disco". The result is a musical
melting pot of delicious tunes which showcase Jak’s unique
voice, outstanding songwriting
talent and musical ability.
Jak’s journey from guitarist to front man, although lengthy
has been very successful.
A founding member of The Badloves and currently a key member of
The Whitlams,
Jak has built a reputation as one of Australia’s premier guitarists.
His distinctive guitar
playing has always taken a pivotal role in shaping the overall sound
of a song and will
not disappoint on Mad About Disco.
Aside from Guitars, Jak also took on the role of producer, recording
the majority of Mad
About Disco in his own studio, Honey Baby Sound. Jak recalls "the
initial idea was to record a simple record on my 8 track, an extension
of my demos, but as I became further embedded in the recording process
my expectations grew. I realized it would be harder than I first
imagined to achieve the result I desired. I’ve definitely
learnt alot on my recording journey and I’m quite pleased
with the end result"
The end result is an eclectic collection of songs, some of them
co written when Jak took a trip to America. "I wrote two songs
with Mark Goldenberg who among other things plays guitar
with Jackson Browne, a song with Kevin Savigar, Rod Stewarts keyboard
player and
a song with a guy named Ian Faith, a producer who co-incidentally
shares his name with
Spinal Tap’s manager. Although co-writing songs with people
you don’t know is like going on a blind date, the experience
was relatively enjoyable and some of my favourite songs came out
of it"
Jak lists his influences on the record as ranging from the "sloppy
sounds of 60’s garage one hit wonders like The Seeds, to the
super precise sounds of bands like Chicago, Steely
Dan & Todd Rundgren." You can hear these influences on
tracks like Bus, Turn Around and Emily I Stare.
I Want You Back is reminiscent of Jak’s Badloves days and
the title track Mad About Disco is Jak’s ode to the end of
the 70’s when"beards were making way for peroxide and
spandex".
Jak will be launching Mad About Disco throughout September 2004
with a tour of Sydney
and a national tour to follow. Backed by a full band the official
album launch will be held on
the 18th of September at the Vic on the Park, Enmore. Support will
come from the talented
Wons Phreely.
For those who make it to the show the album will be available at
a special price.
